What is an air compressor silencer?
An air compressor silencer is a device used to reduce the excessive noise generated by the operation of an air compressor or blower. These devices, also known as silencers, come in different configurations, including tubular silencers, vent filters and filter silencers.

What is a filtered silencer?
Filter silencers are sometimes referred to as air silencers or air compressor silencers. In addition to providing filtered air to protect equipment, filter silencers also provide effective noise attenuation by reducing decibel (dB) levels and softening the tone produced by air compressors or blowers. Why do air compressors need filters?
The basic need for air compressor and blower inlet filtration is to prevent particles or moisture from entering the equipment and damaging internal components. In a dusty operating environment, airborne particles may be drawn into the compressor or blower during operation. These particles can be highly abrasive and adversely affect the proper function or performance of the equipment. The introduction of clean air is essential not only to protect the equipment, but also to protect downstream processes. For these reasons, filtered silencers are the ideal solution for protecting equipment while reducing noise.

 

How does the filter protect the air compressor or blower?
Simply put, the air compressor filter keeps impurities out of the equipment. It could be sand or dust, rain or snow. It is important to consider any contaminants that the equipment may have ingested. A high efficiency air filter will protect the blades, jaws, impellers and valves, which may have a low tolerance to ingested contaminants.
