1. Capacitance
Using the dielectric properties of soil to measure soil moisture content is also an effective, fast, simple and
reliable method.
For the capacitive soil moisture sensor with certain geometric structure, its capacitance is proportional to
the dielectric constant between the two poles of the measured material.Because the dielectric constant of
water is much larger than that of ordinary materials, when the water in the soil increases, its dielectric
constant also increases accordingly, and the capacitance value given by the humidity sensor also
increases during measurement.Soil moisture can be measured by the corresponding relationship between
the capacitance of the sensor and soil moisture.Capacitive soil moisture sensor has the characteristics of
high precision, wide range, many kinds of measured materials and fast response speed, which can be
applied to online monitoring to realize automatic IJI pressure switch.
2. Neutron Moisture Determination
The neutron source is inserted into the soil to be tested through the probe tube, and the fast neutrons
continuously emitted by it collide with various elements in the soil and lose energy, so as to slow it down.
When fast neutrons collide with hydrogen atoms, they lose the most energy and slow down more easily.
Therefore, the higher the soil water content, that is, the more hydrogen atoms, the denser the slow neutron
cloud.By measuring the correlation between slow neutron cloud density and soil water content, the water
content in soil can be determined, and the measurement error is about ± 1%.The neutron meter method can
make periodic repeated measurements at different depths of the original position, but the vertical resolution
of the instrument is poor, and the surface measurement error is large due to the easy dissipation of fast
neutrons in the air.Therefore, a special type of neutron instrument is designed, either shielding or other
methods are used for calibration.
